Glee is an American teen musical comedy-drama television series that airs on the Fox network in the United States. The fifth season of Glee was commissioned on April 19, 2013, along with a sixth season. It premièred on September 26, 2013, as part of the 2013 fall season. After a winter break, it will return and finish around June 2014, similar to the first season. It will also feature the 100th episode of the series, which will be the 12th episode of the season. On June 28, 2013, it was reported that Amber Riley, Heather Morris, Mark Salling, and Harry Shum, Jr. would not return as series regulars though they would be appearing as recurring guest stars, and on the next day that Jacob Artist, Melissa Benoist, Blake Jenner, Alex Newell, and Becca Tobin were being promoted to the main cast. This will be the first season not to feature Cory Monteith, who died shortly before production was scheduled to begin. In an interview regarding how the show will proceed following Monteith's death, co-creator Ryan Murphy stated that his character, Finn Hudson, will die in the third episode, which will pay tribute to Monteith and his character. The series will go on hiatus after the third episode, and resume airing episodes after the baseball post season.
